New Research Reports

Women in Leadership and Gender Parity: Is Change Happening Fast Enough?

The corporate environment is still a challenging one for women — and especially for women leaders aspiring to executive leadership roles. This report, based on 2016 survey research and subsequent interviews with seasoned women leaders throughout the world, provides significant insight into the barriers women face and the efforts several organizations are making to improve the situation. It also offers several critical calls to action, along with detailed data.

Building the Business Case for Onboarding Technology Systems

Organizations are shifting from a labor-intensive, administrative onboarding approach to one that employs technology to automate the paperwork, document management, training, and compliance requirements, and, most importantly, provide the new hire with a better experience that is consistent with the organization’s culture, brand, and value proposition. This tool helps companies build a business case for investing in an onboarding technology by helping to identify the challenges, internal pressures, unique onboarding requirements, and key stakeholders involved with onboarding.

Tool to Use: Learning Measurement Benchmarking

This tool provides exercises that allow you to benchmark your learning measurement approach against organizations that participated in our 2016 Learning Measurement Study. The tool also contains Brandon Hall Group’s Learning Maturity model to see where you fall on a five-level maturity curve.

2016 Excellence Award-Winning Case Studies

Brandon Hall Group announced its 2016 Excellence Award winners. These case studies, featuring the award-winning organizations, were released for publication:

Cognizant Creates Interactive, Scenario-based Learning for Healthcare

Patient-care workers are knowledgeable in their stream of work, but often struggle in appropriately working with a wide range of patient personalities and scenarios. Cognizant’s healthcare client used traditional classroom training for this learning, and it was proving to be increasingly ineffective. So Cognizant designed a highly engaging virtual learning program using animated and interactive patient-care scenarios.

Simulations Create Context for Business Integrity at Unilever

Consumer goods manufacturer Unilever wanted to engage and challenge senior business leaders while delivering compliance training on Business Integrity and the Code of Conduct. Unilever, in partnership with Tata Interactive Systems, created a solution that offers learners the chance to practice implementing different approaches to find solutions and answers in a real-world context, enabling “learning by doing.”

Predictive Analytics on Employee Turnover at HCL Technologies

HCL Technologies, an India-based IT infrastructure company with a strong presence in the United States, follows a principle of “Employees First,” recognizing that the company’s value is determined by its employees. HCL wanted new-age statistical tools that provide predictive turnover insights and identify the highest impact potential, with risk mitigation planning, and intelligent decision-making. In the initial phase of this program, attrition was reduced by 100 basis points, which resulted in savings of about $20 million.

Deutsche Telekom’s ‘Tandem’ Approach to Succession and Career Management

German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom believes in the importance of preserving “the specialist knowledge” of longstanding employees and developing them in order to drive and sustain long-term business growth. It developed the Tandem program, which has three parts: the Knowledge Transfer Tandem, the Manager Tandem, and the Part-Time Tandem. Tandem allows for transition of work from one generation of employees to another in a defined period, or sharing managerial responsibilities between part-time employees

Living Our Best: Duke Realty’s Wellness Program

Duke Realty was at a crossroads with health-care costs: either the costs could continue to increase for both the associates and company, or changes could be produced to create an environment where wellness could flourish and the costs could be controlled. The latter was chosen, leading to the implementation of Living Our Best and the company-wide Wellness Council.

Blended Training on Disability Income Insurance at RiverSource

RiverSource Insurance had a plan to enhance its existing disability income insurance policies with new coverage limits, new pricing structures, and enhanced benefits based on occupation classes and client age. The sales staff needed training on the upgraded benefits. RiverSource developed a blended training program that combined live instructor-led training, synchronous and asynchronous webinars, reference materials, social learning, online quizzes, videos, and post-training email updates and refreshers to get the sales staff prepared for this important initiative.

  • Would you have information for the percentage of training budgets for each type of topic, such as sales, compliance, technology, skill-based, etc.? (The answer came from Brandon Hall Group’s 2015 Training Benchmarking Study).

Webinars

The Learning/Performance Nexus

For many organizations, the outcome of learning is learning. Did people finish the class? Did they like it? What was their score? Good data to have, but is the learning actually impacting the business? The true outcome of learning is performance. David Wentworth, Principal Analyst with Brandon Hall Group, and Anita Bowness, Global Practice Leader, Consulting Services, with Halogen Software, examine how learning and performance intersect, and why learning consultants are actually performance consultants.
Solution Provider Profile

JoomlaLMS

This solution provider profile features JoomlaLMS, whose open-source platform allows it to be one of the most competitively priced systems available. At the same time, however, JoomlaLMS delivers a wide array of features and functions found in much more expensive solutions. Being based on the open-source CMS Joomla! makes this platform different than most LMS offerings in several ways. The profile includes insights from Brandon Hall Group Principal Learning Analyst David Wentworth.

NetDimensions and eXact Go All In on Learning

The line between the LCMS and the LMS has been getting increasingly blurred recently, but NetDimensions and eXact learning solutions have just erased it all together. The two companies on Sept. 21 announced an affiliate agreement that will allow both companies to extend the impact of their flagship solutions to their respective client bases. Space-Age Human Resources at ADP’s Analyst Day 2016

When you think about all of the accomplishments of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (the Mars Curiosity Rover, the Saturn orbiter, just to name a few) and all the exciting things that are still under way (Osiris-REx asteroid sampling mission), and you have the former director of the JPL available for questions, as a group of us did on Sept. 14 as part of ADP’s Analyst Day, it almost seems heretical to ask about HR. But that is who we are and what we do. And some of the insights Dr. Charles Elachi shared were interesting — not just because of the forward-thinking nature of the work at the JPL, but because that progressive thinking is also reflected in its people policies.
