The 2016 Brandon Hall Group Excellence in Awards for Learning and Development, Talent Management, and Sales and Marketing Awards

Pearson and Lane4 are delighted to have won two Awards at this year’s Brandon Hall Group Award for Excellence. They were awarded Gold in the “Best Use of Video in Learning” category and Bronze in the “Best Unique or Innovative Learning and Development program” category. The awards were announced on Wednesday the 7th September 2016. The winners are listed here.

The awards follow an extensive digital Global Management Development programme which was rolled out across 33 countries to over 1100 managers. During a time of significant transformation, Pearson set the goal to provide their first ever global management development programme to support their managers and leaders. With a vision of ‘One Pearson’, the programme was designed to enable managers to inspire, develop, collaborate and deliver whilst building a thriving and engaged culture.

The programme was built as a ‘strongly supported self guided offering, launched on a blend of virtual platforms that allowed learners to navigate at their own pace. To ensure engagement Pearson worked with Lane4 to create a highly engaging and interactive curriculum where managers took personal ownership of their own professional ‘fitness’. Launched as a broad scope pilot, participants were nominated by the business and open to all levels of management.

“Our strategy was to assist managers to address their professional development. To help communicate our idea we adopted a metaphor that we felt everyone could relate to. We positioned the learning around the concept of health, fitness and wellness. The metaphor gave birth to the idea of a Virtual Manager Fitness Centre.”

Tia Finn, Pearson, Management Development Design Specialist

“The Pearson Management Development Team chose to be brave and embed Lane4 as a strategic partner. Lane4 has an extremely successful track record of working with organisations to create ‘imaginative’ programmes that help managers to lead the way through the uncertainty of change, yet still be able to reach their own full potential. We are absolutely delighted that Pearson’s programme has received this recognition.”

“At Pearson, the fast pace of change means the ability of our managers to engage and build high performing teams is as critical as ever.  The Manager Fitness is a fantastic addition to our manager development offering for a number of reasons:  the metaphor of fitness works everywhere; the virtual approach further supports our managers in learning together as a global community; and the assessment, self-paced support and use of videos are providing our managers with the insight and support they need to improve as they need it.”
Susannah Garside
VP, Learning & Development

Adrian Moorhouse, Lane4, Managing Director

The objective of the pilot programme was to determine if managers’ professional development can be addressed via a virtually delivered experience. Overall evidence suggests this approach delivered on the objective. Feedback data revealed that 74% of delegates felt the content was helpful and meaningful to their day to day roles, and 70% felt inspired to continue their development as people managers by the programme.

“Winning a Brandon Hall Group Excellence Award means an organization is an elite innovator within Human Capital Management (HCM). All award winners have to demonstrate a measurable benefit to the business, not just the HCM operation. That’s an important distinction. Our HCM award winners are helping to transform the business.” Rachel Cooke, Chief Operating Officer of Brandon Hall Group and head of the awards program.
