Award-winning Case Studies

These case studies – winners of 2015 Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards – were released for publication this week:

Social Interaction to Drive Strategy at Ketchum

Strategy can be an amorphous thing when conveyed in written form. However, social collaboration provides a more robust method for expressing passion, involving more people, highlighting key points, and offering a personal/social connection. That’s why when Ketchum needed to develop a new strategic initiative, it turned to a structured social collaboration program that included a heavy emphasis on video. This earned the firm a Gold Award for Best Advance in Social or Collaborative Learning in the 2015 Excellence Awards.

Turkcell’s Best HR Analytics

This awards case studies explains how Turkish telecommunications company Turkcell used analytics to understand whether employees were putting company leadership competencies into practice. By analyzing unstructured data, Turkcell provided valuable insights to help determine future people management strategies. The initiative won a Gold Award for Best Advance in Workforce Management in the 2015 Brandon Hall Group Awards.

Case Study: Call Center Training at PSCU

Contact centers face unique challenges, including a need to train new hires in a manner that ensures rapid uptake. Time to proficiency can make or break this type of training program. In this case study we examine how PSCU partnered with Xyleme, a popular LCMS provider, to structure its new hire learning content. This earned the $480 million financial services firm a Silver Award for Best Use of a Blended Learning Program in the 2015 Excellence Awards.

Cargill: Transitioning Into Leadership

This awards case study features Cargill’s Transitioning into Leadership program and how it addresses Cargill’s organizational complexity and evolving leadership needs. The program earned a Silver Award for Leadership Development in the 2015 Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards.

Implementing Custom Learning Games at Domino’s Pizza

Teaching front-line employees in a company of more than 200,000 staff is nearly impossible if relying solely on instructor-based options. However, games and simulations allow learners to learn and practice skills with little to no outside help. Domino’s Pizza worked with Allen Communications to develop a custom toppings game with goals of reducing remakes due to poor workmanship. This program earned the $1.9 billion restaurant a Bronze Award for Best Custom Content in the 2015 Excellence Awards.

Improving Supermarket Margins at PSK

PSK Supermarkets was facing the common challenge of controlling payroll and managing the process, so it sought out a technology partner to assist. Ultimately PSK selected Ceridian’s Dayforce product to support its HCM practices, and this case study highlights some of the benefits of the transition. This earned the grocery store a Bronze Award for Best Advance in payroll Strategy and Administration in the 2015 Excellence Awards.

One great benefit to Brandon Hall Group members is the ability to ask questions of our HCM analyst team and get quick answers, usually within 24 hours. The questions answered this week included:

  • Can you point me to good case studies on companies going through complex change?
  • Do you have research on use of assessments for employment?
  • I’m looking for any research, tips, and case studies you might have relating to validating a competency model.
  • Do you have data that indicates which LMSs hold the largest market share in healthcare? Top 10?
  • Can you point me to successful examples of transitioning organizations (in my case 10K+ engineers) from one software technology to another; which type of training worked/not (short videos, lab, tutorials, classroom…), best practices, lessons learned…?
  • Can you provide alternatives to Virtual Instructor Led Training with scheduled components?

Effective career management is possible, and in this blog post, Laci Loew shares with us how to make it work.

Micro Courses, Adaptive Learning, and the Forgetting Curve

People forget. It’s a fact of life, and it’s a scary proposition for those developing training everywhere. Imagine that half of your training budget was eliminated. That’s a fair approximation of what happens when learners forget half of the content they are provided in a relatively short period of time. So what can we do to minimize this loss and reinforce key topics in our training? This blog post, Ben Eubanks explores the interaction between bite-size content, adaptive learning, and the ever-present forgetfulness of learners.
