This KnowledgeBlast, based on Brandon Hall Group’s 2015 Employment Value Proposition (EVP) research, focuses on three essentials for establishing a strong EVP: understanding what it is, leading practices, and the impact of technology.

Measuring the ROI of Informal Learning

This research brief discusses the challenges organizations face in utilizing experiential and informal learning to supplement the formal learning that predominates despite research that shows other forms of learning are as or more effective. The report provides ideas for measuring learning in general and the relatively easy adjustments that can be made to measure the effectiveness of informal learning

Award-winning Case Studies

These case studies – winners of 2015 Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards – were released for publication this week:

BCBS of North Carolina Trains Staff on New Technology

This case study highlights the journey of BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina as it implements and trains new staff on its CareRadius system. The custom course, developed in conjunction with GP Strategies, helped to teach the employees about the new application in alignment with the company’s strategic vision. This earned the healthcare organization a Gold Award for Best Custom Content in the 2015 Excellence Awards.

Pizza Hut’s Blended Coaching Practice

As a global restaurant chain, Pizza Hut knows the value that great leaders can bring to its business. Upon completion of an analysis of the most critical leadership characteristics, the company designed a blended learning solution that seeks to address these most critical needs. This earned the $5 billion firm a Bronze Award for Best Use of a Blended Learning Program in the 2015 Excellence Awards.

Answers to Questions from Members

One great benefit to Brandon Hall Group members is the ability to ask questions of our HCM analyst team and get quick answers, usually within 24 hours. The questions answered this week included:

  • Do other organizations use branching scenarios in E&C courses? If yes, how regulators view branching type of courses used for E&C training? Are there any benchmarks to show how other organizations use branching courses for E&C training? Any legal constraints?
  • Can you direct me to information on coaching for performance?
  • I have a team of house instructional designers and want to learn what other organizations do to measure performance, success, etc., of the individuals or team.
  • Is there a report with market size and forecast for U.S. and global eLearning markets? I am looking for a report that shows the major players in the authoring and LMS space, and their relative market share.

Webinars

Capturing the True Analytics of Learning

As learning technology advances and companies are able to deliver a wider array of experiences to their learners, organizations are faced with a new wave of data that can be tracked, measured and acted upon. However, most companies are still only measuring course completions and smile sheets. In this webinar, David Wentworth, principal learning analyst for Brandon Hall Group, and A.D. Detrick, senior consultant for Xerox Learning Services, look at the state of measurement and analytics within learning and how companies can get better at it.

Research-based Blogs

Corporate Universities: Seize the Strategic Opportunity

We all know the value of training and what it has to offer to the organization. But what is the difference between training and a corporate university? Both are operated by the L&D function, they are designed to meet the needs of the learning population, and each plays a part in driving performance. However, there are some specific areas that they are different from a company’s general training offerings. In this blog post, Ben Eubanks talks about what these tools are, why they matter, and how companies are using them.

Fresh Insights on Leadership Development

Leadership development takes the number one spot on talent agendas year over year. Yet, despite its importance, an alarming 69% of organizations this year reported that the business value of their leadership development was average at best, with many of those describing it as below average or even poor. In this blog post, Laci Loew shares with us some of the latest trends in leadership development and offers an invitation to an upcoming research spotlight where she will cover more on this critical business topic.

HCMx Radio: Transforming Learning Programs to Drive Business Results

Brandon Hall Group’s 2015 Training Study shows that high-performing companies experienced far greater results by offering multiple learning modalities. But most companies still struggle with shifting from traditional training to new delivery methods and determining the right blend of offerings. In the latest episode of HCMx Radio, Rachel Cooke connects with Michelle Vielledent, director of sales effectiveness at Edwards Lifesciences, on how the company was able to achieve the right training blend with its sales staff.
